How to create a subdomain

Last Updated: October 4, 2008

Many new dedicated server owners running whm / cPanel wonder where they have to go to create a subdomain account. Well really there are two options for making a subdomain. You can create one in cPanel, but it will share resources with the "root" domain. The next option is to create the subdomain in WHM. (Web Host Manager). When you create the account in WHM it's like any other account you can specify a package, and other options.

To create a subdomain in WHM do the following.

1. Login to WHM
2. Click "Create a New Account"
3. Where it says "Domain" type in your subdomain.
Example: test.dedicated-resources.com
4. Select a package, and create the account.

Now this is a sub domain account on your dedicated server...
This is great for people that don't own their own domain.

If you want to add sub domains for your own domains and just want them for easier navigiation, you do this in cPanel under "Subdomains". You wil be able to add a subdomain, delete one, and setup/remove redirection for the subdomain in cPanel.
