August 2004 Web Server Survey Details

Last Updated: November 30, -0001

According to research and analysis firm Netcraft (netcraft.com), 69.74% of the surveyed web sites which are 'active' are ran on Apache, compared to only 22.72% of the web sites run on Microsoft. Netcraft was able to include 53,341,867 web sites in this survey.

What does this mean to web hosting providers? It simply means that there is a larger number of people wishing to host on a server running Apache. However this doesn't mean Microsoft running servers will not be profitable, it simply means the market isn't as large.
