Google Desktop Search Released

Google has released Desktop Search today, a tool aimed at providing google searches on your local machine for your local files.

Google Desktop Search will run in your computers system tray indexing your files, e-mails, AOL conversations, and basically any text you allow it too. The Google Desktop Search will provide google like searches on your local machine and report back the findings to only you.


Google Desktop Specifically works with the following file types.
-Outlook / Outlook Express
-Word
-AOL Instant Messenger
-Excel
-Internet Explorer
-PowerPoint
-Text

A nice feature of Google Desktop Search is that each page you visit on the internet google desktop search will store it, and make it not only available offline to you but searchable via the google desktop search interface.

Currently Google Desktop Search is only available in English, however it is only in beta testing and will most likely be released in multiple languages in the future.

For those that are worried about google reading through all of their personal documents you may at any time un-install, and remove the desktop search utility at any time.
