Tell us what your company does exactly?
Dotcom-Monitor provides remote website monitoring service that tests websites from multiple locations around the world as often as every minute, simulating end-user behavior from each location. From single web page monitoring to stepping through complex web applications, such as shopping carts, account logins, and online payment systems, Dotcom-Monitor ensures that every single page within your application is available, has proper content and an acceptable response time. Also, to insure all aspects of client network are functioning properly, we can monitor most of external services within enterprises 24x7. Our network performance monitoring agents can monitor Mail, DNS, FTP, Telnet Servers, Routers, Firewalls, and any other device connected to Internet. Recently, we released a load test service that provides an affordable way to stress test your site with loads from 10 to 500 simultaneous users. Dotcom-Monitor website load testing is performed by our remote agents from around the world. Using our external web load test tool, clients can insure that their website will handle the load required, and ensure that routers, DNS servers, available bandwidth and network throughput are up to the task.
Tell us how you got started.
Dotcom-Monitor.com was started by Dana Consulting Inc. Dana Consulting Inc in the late 90s was specializing in developing ecommerce applications for large financial institutions. Project after project we saw very similar requirements from each client and that is to design some sort of monitoring solution to ensure that the new released site is available all the time and provide notification services in case of any problems. After providing custom solutions to a number of customers, we decided to create generic common service that everyone could use. This is how Dotcom-Monitor.com was born.
What is your average day like at work?
Our customer wishes and requirements are top priority. To stay competitive in this business we are trying to meet all our customers’ requests for new features and implement some ideas that they have if we decide it could be reused by other clients. This is why 50% of my time spent on customer support, listening and discussing their problems and ideas. Other 50% of the time I spent between development and network support teams.
With such a tough industry how do you remain competitive, and have an edge over the competitors?
As I mentioned before, we believe that retaining customers is more important then acquiring new customers. We listen very carefully to the needs and try to accommodate as much as possible. In most cases, the requirements are very similar across most of the customers.
Do you work for/run any other websites/companies? If so which? (Website Address is fine.)
Dotcom-Monitor.com is the only project I am dedicated to.
Do you have any suggestions for someone trying to step into this field?
Remote monitoring became a very competitive field. I believe one must provide a large set of features and options with an affordable price model to get ahead in this industry.
Do you have any closing comments?
We would like to welcome everyone responsible for web site and network maintenance to try our 30-day free trial website monitoring service and we would welcome your ideas on new features that you would like to see and we do not currently provide.
