AWSTATS Stats Error Fix

Last Updated: November 30, 1999

AWStats stopped working for a single site on my dedicated server, and I couldn't identify the problem or find a way to fix it. I tried the usual methods of upping the load value before AWStats stops working, I tried disabling, and enabling AWStats, I tried manually updating AWStats in my web browser, all of these attempts at curing the problem failed. I then recreated the conf file for the particular site - and again this did not fix the logging problem with awstats.

Finally I contacted cPanel themselves to see if there was any known conflicts. After a few minutes of investigation they found that the Log file was over 2gb. They informed me that due to the size that logs were no longer recorded. So the problem wasn't AWSTats it was the log file. Apparently due to the size no more records were being written to the file. Once the log file was removed logging continued, and awstats worked agian.
